Thank you, so long, 2018

January: Hierve el Agua, in Oaxaca Mexico for Pocoapoco

It’s been a whirlwind of a year, and honestly I’m a bit wiped out. Sitting at home in a snowstorm, writing this after a lovely Christmas with Sonia and her parents, I’m looking forward to just sitting around and reading the new Tana French book that Sonia got me.

Before I check out completely, I wanted to take a look back at the past year. Sometimes it’s easy to get frustrated and feel like there wasn’t enough time, or things didn’t go the way I thought they would. Moving to a new place and running a business has been exciting and exhilarating as well as terrifying and stressful. And looking back, it’s nice to remind myself that I did a lot of really hard and amazing things this past year.

I picked out my favorite photos from the past year, one for each month. Some of the highlights include:

Going to Oaxaca, Mexico on a creative residency with Sonia.

Sonia taking me to White Sands for Valentine’s Day (this was one of the conditions of me moving to New Mexico with her, that we had to go to see White Sands National Park).

Seeing the Spring Equinox sunrise at Chaco.

Showing one of my paintings in a gallery in Taos.

Taking a horse back riding tour of Ghost Ranch with Emma and Sonia, led by Sunny Khalsa.

Going home to Maine to visit family and the ocean.

Friends and family visiting! It’s a lot easier to get folks to visit in New Mexico than it was in Chicago.

Meeting Zippy and getting a lovely feature in Santa Fe Found, and the warmest welcome to Santa Fe!

Seeing the desert in bloom.

Exploring our new city, and finding lots of spots that we love.

Adding SIX new stores across the country! You can now find my work at Cupcake Clothing in Santa Fe, Rock Paper Scissors in Wiscasset Maine, Gilda’s in Newton Center Massachusetts, Spur Line Supply Co. and Mostly Home in Albuquerque New Mexico, and the Better Shop in Brooklyn New York.

One year being married to Sonia, loving every minute of it.

Hiking up in the mountains in New Mexico and Colorado. And my first ever 14er - Mt. Elbert in Colorado!

All of the hot springs everywhere.

Putting together two new collections of jewelry, inspired by travel in Montana and Wyoming, and our new home in New Mexico.

Running a half marathon in Albuquerque, and getting my best time ever, after thinking I might be walking in the end… (really helps to train in Santa Fe and then go down a few thousand feet).

I donated to four STILL WE RISE auctions and together with all of your help and donations they have raised $322K since their first instagram auction in 2017, and specifically $212K raised for organizations that are helping the crisis at the border, including @aclu_nationwide @raicestexas @txcivilrights @innovationlawlab @circleofhealth and @fams2gether

Reading lots of good books.

Moving (again).

My first trunk show ever at Cupcake Clothing and getting to meet so many lovely folks!

Making mixtapes (virtual this time) again.

Snowy mountains, and a winter getaway to Abiquiu with my mom and Sonia.

Hosting Christmas with Sonia and her parents, and really killing it with the vegetarian dishes this year. Hands down love all recipes by Heidi Swanson and Anna Jones!

Looking forward:

I don’t do resolutions anymore. But I am looking forward to reading more, writing more, painting more, seeing more of New Mexico, meeting new people, visiting the ocean, seeing the Bisti Badlands, introducing some new collections of jewelry as well as paper and fiber goods (sign up for the mailing list to be the first to hear about these!), taking more pictures, traveling, cooking, and all the unexpected adventures that I’m sure 2019 will bring.

Thanks for supporting me + reading + following along! If there’s anything you’d like to see or read or hear about in the future, leave me a note below!

Happy Holidays and Wishing you a Happy New Year!
